Project: Community-Based Organizations - The team interviewed refugee-run community-based organizations in the U.S looking for links for overseas home-country project collaboration. Groups included those from Sierra Leone, Liberia, Southern Sudan and Congo.

Client organization: Human Rights Watch

Project: Weighing the Evidence: Milosevic's Indictment and Trial - The team perused trial witness transcripts and other source material looking for information demonstrating coordinated militia attacks in Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia and Kosovo. The team also analyzed the impact of Milosevic's indictment, arrest and prosecution on popular opinion and the political power structure in Serbia.

Project: E-commerce for the Women's Sewing Cooperative - To create a larger sales market for the East African Center's Women's Sewing Club, the consultants created a merchandising plan for their handicrafts, and a catalog for an e-commerce site.

Project: Fragile States Is Equitable Aid Distribution Possible to Countries under "Extreme Conditions"? - Researched and wrote a policy and analysis paper on Equitable aid distribution to fragile states for UNICEF. The team constructed a conceptual framework to define "fragile states",  and analyzed international donor policy and recipient country absorption capacity.

Project: Children's Social Protection: Institutional Mapping of Social Insurance and Protection Schemes for Children, Women, and Families - Researched and wrote a policy and analysis paper on Universal children's "social security" for UNICEF. Team members researched children's assistance programmes (cash transfers, safety nets, cash assistance) creating a conceptual framework, inventory and Institutional Mapping of five countries.

Client organization: New York City Mayor's Office for Immigrant Affairs

Project: Immigrant History Week 101 - Organized Immigrant History Week for the New York City Mayor's Office of Immigrant Affairs. After working with community organizations on April's Immigrant History Week, this team produced a manual on organizing future events.

Project: Outreach as a Tool to Combat Human Trafficking - Researched and wrote a policy and analysis paper on human trafficking outreach for the International Rescue Committee.This team surveyed 26 national anti-trafficking organizations to research effective outreach methods to identify and reach trafficking victims.

Project: Taking the Lead: Refugees Creating Their Own Solutions - The research team studied refugee community-based organizations in the U.S. and their collaborations with home countries. These linkages can be utilized to support good governance, strengthen civil society and foster community based programs in the US and abroad. Ongoing work with community-based organizations founded by and for refugees with the International Rescue Committee. This team interviewed refugee-run community organizations from Sierra Leone, Liberia, Southern Sudan, Congo, Burma and Afghanistan.

Client organization: Independent Diplomat

Project: Somaliland Opportunities for International  Recognition - Strategized on international recognition of the state of Somaliland. This team formulated creative strategies for the unrecognized Republic of Somaliland to gain official recognition as a state apart from Somalia.

Client organization: Doctors of the World ­- USA

Project: New York City's Invisible Victims - Surveying New York City health facilities' capacity to recognize and treat immigrant victims of torture for Doctors of the World. Surveyed and evaluated the capability of NYC medical centers to serve immigrant populations with significant numbers of torture survivors.

 

 

            Fall 2005

Client organization: interrupcion*

Project: Completed a "Localization" chapter of the interruptor*'s organizational manual, identifying points of access to increase member base. Designated areas were evaluated globally, through research into demography, socio-economic indicators, civil society and communications infrastructures and acting locally, by generating an on-the-ground model for membership expansion.

Client organization: International Rescue Committee

Project: Studied refugee community-based organizations in the U.S. and their collaborations with home countries, with the objective to utilize these linkages to support good governance, strengthen civil society and foster community based programs in the U.S. and abroad.

Client organization: East African Center for the Empowerment of Women and Children

Project: Community Development: Fundraising for Health: Wrote a grant proposal to construct and fund a health center in Kenya for the East African Center. The East African Center (EAC) plans to open a new health clinic for women and children in coastal Kenya in the spring of 2006. The PIA team wrote a grant proposal to submit to five international donors to secure $195,050 in funding to build and operate the EAC's health clinic.

Project: Organizational Assessment - This project helped the Consortium for Haitian Empowerment, which serves Haitians and Haitian-Americans, define its service delivery model and develop a clear strategy for the next three to five years.
