Humanitarian workers discuss their experiences in Haiti: the Big Picture, the small picture and what gets lost in translation.

Speakers:

Ruben Flores is the Co-Founder and Director of Operations for NYC Medics, an all-volunteer organization which deploys rapid response emergency medical teams to disasters worldwide, providing care to populations who, isolated by injury, illness, geography, or other barriers, would otherwise be inaccessible.
Prior to his work with NYC Medics, he worked within the NYC EMS 911 system, and with the Mexican Red Cross.  Mr. Flores is on the faculty of the Borough of Manhattan Community College's Paramedic Program, and currently serves as the Emergency Operations Manager for North General Hospital.

Dan Deckelbaum, M.D., mPH is a trained general surgeon with subspecialty training in trauma and critical care. In addition to his clinical work at McGill University he has developed an avid interest in disaster management and emergency response. He has worked at several disasters including hurricane Ike, suicide bombings in Mogadishu, massacres in northern Kenya and most recently the earthquake in Haiti.
