The New School Graduate Program in International Affairs (GPIA) will convene a one and a half day workshop on contemporary issues in the theory and practice of human rights on September 25 and 26, 2009. The workshop will promote critical analysis, scholarship and discussion on urgent questions in the field of human rights today, from a range of disciplinary perspectives. Are current ways of practicing human rights effective? Can and should human rights shape economic policy? Can human rights ever avoid implication in imperial strategies?
The workshop will consist of the following panels:

2. Humanitarianism and Human Rights
3. Human Rights and Economic Policy
4. Gender Violence and Human Rights
