The New School Graduate Program in International Affairs

Natalie is the head of a family with six young children. 16 years old, she is still a child herself, but when the father died and the mother went to prison years ago, she had to take on the role of a mother. She and her six siblings live in a small house in the favela of Maré. Natalie gets both her psychical and mental strenght from boxing at the ngo Luta Pela Paz (Fight for Peace) in Maré, where children and youth from the favela meet for support and cultural activities.
