Archivist and Researcher, Art Center of Keio University
The evening will consist of films and a lecture that look at the
history of one of Butoh's founders, Hijikata Tatsumi. It will be the
first time that the film "Story of Smallpox" has been shown in New York.
"Rebellion of the Body" was earlier screened at the Guggenheim Museum.
The lecture by Morishita will introduce the ideology of Hijkata, and
essence and meaning of Butoh by introducing activities of Hijikata
Tatsumi as a Butoh founder.

Takashi Morishita: is an archivist and a researcher at the Art Center
of Keio University since 1998. Since the beginning of 1970s he has been
involved with production of Butoh with Hijikata Tatsumi, as a member of
Hijikata's Butoh studio called Asbestos-kan. After Hijikata passed away
in 1986, he has been in charge of collecting and maintaining Butoh
documents and materials mainly focusing on Hijikata's activities. He has
been a archivist of Hijikata Tatsumi archive at the Art Center since its
founding.
