Bio


Robert Shepherd is originally from North Carolina, where he completed two Bachelor of Art degree's at Appalachian State University in Latin American Studies and Spanish.  Robert also recently completed a Master of Art degree in International Affairs, concentrating in socio-economic development from the New School in New York City. Robert has lived, studied and worked extensively in Latin America, including the Dominican Republic and Argentina. His interest include community development and organizing, management, advocacy, along with youth and educational development.  This past summer Robert worked in Argentina with a a grassroots community development organization to complete a 200 household survey and needs assessment of a marginal community outside of Buenos Aires. Robert also speaks Spanish fluently. He is currently looking to get involved with a grassroots community development organization working on 'bottom-up' community development projects here in the greater NYC area. Finally, Robert is serving on the board of directors for LUZ International, a recent NGO start-up dedicated to the promotion of human development through the enrichment of education in Latin America. The purpose of the organization is to assist needy students of unfunded or underfunded public schools, by providing tangible resources (e.g. notebooks, pencils, backpacks, desks, computers, blackboards, etc.) eliminating the immediate obstacles that prevent them from participating in & experiencing a fully dignified schooling environment.

Work Experience

  • Inter-Agency Network for Education in Emergencies (INEE)

I am working with the INEE in the Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) arena along with Safer School Construction (SSC).  The INEE is an exciting network that provides the tools and assistance to other organizations (UNESCO, IRC, UNICEF, Red Cross, etc.) to prevent, mitigate and recuperate from disaster situations (whether they be natural or human enduced), using quality education as a key human right to re-build and avoid future catstrophe's.  For more information on the INEE, please visit their website: www.ineesite.org
