Access to and Awareness of Comprehensive Abortion Care in Ethiopia

Project Summary: Students worked with EngenderHealth on policy and regulations review on family planning and abortion care in Etiopia.  EngenderHealth is a leading international reproductive health organization working to improve the quality of health care in the world's poorest communities. EngenderHealth empowers people to make informed choices about contraception, trains health providers to make motherhood safer, promotes gender equity, enhances the quality of HIV and AIDS services, and advocates for positive policy change. . Specifically, through communications with Ethiopian colleagues, the team-

  • Reviewed the status of implementation of these policies and regulations at Woreda (district) and Kebele (village) health care facilities.
  • Identified gaps and obstacles to policy implementation at the service delivery level.  
  • Based on international standards, developed recommendations for policies and guidelines to strengthen family planning and safe abortion care.
