Michael Keating is a Senior Fellow and Associate Director at the Center for Democracy and Development at the University of Massachusetts Boston. Since 2006 he has been leading missions to Liberia to deal with the issues of post-conflict media and  development communications. He has been a consultant for the World Bank and the U.S. State Department as well as a special consultant to the Press Union of Liberia. He also co-founded the Liberian Media Support Initiative, a U.S. based effort to direct resources to media projects in Liberia.

His current mission in Liberia is on behalf of the World Bank's Development Communication Division which is attempting to develop a  development communication capacity within the Government of Liberia in support of the just concluded Poverty Reduction Strategy.

Prior to his work in Liberia, Michael worked throughout West Africa, Eastern Europe and the Balkans on various types of projects for private and non-profit organizations. He was stationed for several years in Paris as a media consultant and also lived and worked in Japan for many years.

He is a former media industry and technology Partner with the Boston Consulting Group and a former Vice-President with the German media company Bertelsmann. He is a graduate of the Philosophy Department at Fordham, studied Asian languages at the University of Washington, and has Certificates in Finance from the Harvard Business School and the Amsterdam Institute of Finance.
