GPIA Listserv

By far the most common means of communication within the program is via the GPIA listserv and we are now proud to offer two additional GPIA listservs!  By dividing the listserv into 3 listservs, we hope that everyone will find it easier to manage their inboxes and their participation.

GPIA - is the main GPIA communications list and is reserved for communications of educational and professional matters. This includes notifications from the administration about registration, courses, GPIA sponsored events, and other program related announcements. This also includes internship and job announcements as well as events in New York that subscribers to the list feel would be relevant to GPIA. Every current student and faculty member should be subscribed to this list. 

GPIA Squibslist – is where subscribers can post announcements about apartments, and books for sale or to trade.  It is like a classifieds section minus jobs. 

GPIA Community – is the listserv for everything else; for instance, discussions about current events or debates about what is going on with the New School, the program and in the world. This is also the place where you should send news articles that you would like to share with everyone.

Please send messages only to the related listserv.

Instructions:

To subscribe
  • Send e-mail, from the address that you want subscribed, to: majordomo@listserv.newschool.edu
  • Subject: (LEAVE THIS BLANK)
  • Type in the body of the message either: "subscribe gpia", "subscribe gpia_squibslist" OR "subscribe gpia_community"
    • that is all it should say in the body and you have to send a seperate email for each listserv you would like to subscribe to.

To unsubscribe

  • Send e-mail, from the address that you want unsubscribed, to: majordomo@listserv.newschool.edu
  • Subject: (LEAVE THIS BLANK)
  • Type in the body of the message either: "unsubscribe gpia", "unsubscribe gpia_squibslist" OR "unsubscribe gpia_community"
    • that is all it should say in the body and you have to send a seperate email for each listserv you would like to subscribe to.
When you are ready to send a message:
  1. Consider which list it belongs to
  2. Send it to either gpia@listserv.newschool.edu, gpia_community@listserv.newschool.edu, or gpia_squibslist@listserv.newschool.edu

 

 

NOTES:

1. You must send your mail from the address that is subscribed to GPIA, otherwise it will reject the message as being from a “non-member.” This feature prevents us from receiving spam from outside sources through the listserve.

2. Yahoo occasionally rejects emails that are sent with more than 500 recipients. Since the GPIA listserve has more than 500 recipients, messages are sometimes not delivered to yahoo email addresses! We therefore strongly encourage to use alternative email providers to subscribe to the GPIA listserve (e.g. your New School email account).

Majordomo is a software program that is used to manage mailing lists. It is not a person, so it must be communicated with according to strict rules! The command must begin the first line of the message area, and you must leave the subject blank (as above). Never use the majordomo address when you want to send mail to an individual or to the list serve itself. For more information see here.

Unfortunately, the New School list hosting services do not include automatic digest format. Several people have requested this feature, and these suggestions have been passed along, but for the moment it is not possible to receive a weekly digest of mail sent to GPIA. The GPIA Listserve is an unmoderated list! Please use common sense, courtesy, and discretion in sending announcements, comments, and responses to the list. Users who act irresponsibly or illegally (see here) are subject to removal from the list.
