For over a decade, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and in particular its eastern regions have been plagued by a gruesome civil (and some would say international) conflict. The conflict has gone through hot and cold phases, and in late October of this year, a situation of relative peace was shattered when rebel soldiers, led by Laurent Nkunda seized several strategic areas in the province of Kivu. The renewed conflict has led to an urgent and overwhelming humanitarian crisis, with hundreds of thousands displaced into makeshift camps.

Representatives of Friends of the Congo (FOTC), will lead a discussion about the contemporary situation in the Democratic Republic of Congo. FOTC is an advocacy organization whose vision is to see a Congo led by and working on behalf of its own citizens. FOTC works on issues of education, gender equality, agriculture, and human rights.
