Program Description:
In this third year of the Ethiopia program, students in Ethiopia will work with a range of organizations including local and international NGOs around the issues of HIV/AIDS outreach and treatment, education and children and youth programs, capacity building, income generation.
Eligibility: Amharic class and required academic course in Spring.
Potential Summer 2010 Projects:
- Primary school needs assessment follow up with Vital SEEDS, a grassroots organization that is opening primary schools in impoverished neighborhoods.
- Curriculum development and youth programming for Forum for Street Children in Addis Ababa.
- Sex workers' income generation projects: Work with sex workers being trained in acupuncture and help find other income generating opportunities as well as helping to facilitate trained clients in the establishing of their new jobs.
