Philip J. Akre

Phil Akre (M.Phil., MIA, and Certificate, Political Science, International Affairs, and Middle East Studies, Columbia University), is Assistant Director of the International Affairs Program. He was previously Assistant Director of the Center for Middle Eastern Studies at Rutgers University. His career has combined program administration and grant development with teaching, writing, consulting and research. He has studied and traveled in Europe, the Middle East, Mexico, and the Caribbean, served as a research intern at the United Nations, and was a Peace Corps volunteer in North Africa for three years. He has published, delivered papers and given guest lectures on U.S. foreign policy and Middle East politics in diverse forums, including the United Nations, the U.S. Army War College, and the Smithsonian Institution.
